Obsolete business signs 2008

Presentation :

As part of the beautification campaign launched by the Saint-Josse Atrium (banners, colour schemes, façade renovation, terrace harmonisation), the removal of obsolete business signs is one task which can be undertaken immediately and which will have the most immediate impact.

The project is simple. All that has to be done is to identify the business signs which are obsolete and remove them.

Objectives :

• To identify and remove the obsolete signs and hence alleviate the visual pollution of the façades
• To beautify the district's façades

District concerned :

The Madou district: Chaussée de Louvain, Rue Willems, Rue des Deux Eglises, Rue Saxe-Cobourg, Rue Verbist, etc.

Project dates :

• April 2008: list of façades and search for proprietors
• Wednesday July 30: removal of signs

• Télé Bruxelles TV report : Interviews Bertrand van Hoorebeke (Atrium manager), Eric Jassin (échevin des classes moyennes)

Target group :

• The owners of the façades concerned
• All users of the streets concerned

Results expected :

• Removal of 37 signs
• Results obtained : 33 obsolete signs have disappeared from the façades
• Number of signs actually removed by Atrium : 26
• Number of signs re-used : 5
• Number of signs removed by the trader or the proprieto r: 2

Partnership motivated : 

• The STIC (Joint Interest Work Service)
• The owners of the façades concerned

Follow-up and management :

The list has been sent to the municipality which will proceed to impose the necessary charge on those signs which are still in breach.
